IIRC, the European 60GB model had software emulation for the EE, but
still included the graphics chip (RSX?). They have dropped the chip
for the 40GB model to lower costs at the expense of PS2 compatability.
A bit counter to Sony's marketing strategy, if you ask me. Recently,
it seemed like they were aiming to make a ubiquitous, all-encompasing
'PlayStation' family of products, rather than pushing the consoles
themselves, especially with the PS2 still selling so well.
