Mark Ng - here's some feedback on screencasts.

Having installed the software and assuming you have a
mic, you'll be recording screencasts in about 15
minutes.

How-tos here for Windows with the open-course
CamStudio:
http://showmedo.com/videos/series?name=camstudioSeries
and the low-cost iShowU for Mac:
http://showmedo.com/videos/video?name=760000&fromSeriesID=76
which come from our how-to-screencast section:
http://showmedo.com/videos/screencasting

Possibly I can offer some free licenses for iShowU
(Mac) if the resulting videos are hosted in ShowMeDo
and iShowU gets a small plug (this is a deal I have
with iShowU's author Neil Clayton). We can chat
off-list if this is useful.

There are extra notes including links to success
stories and how-tos via:
http://showmedo.com/submissionsForm

For Windows we use the CamStudio Lossless Codec
(open-source) which results in *huge* but perfect
quality files. QuickTime can convert the results to
MOVs if wanted.

I'm happy to convert any videos to FLV for flash-based
playback on the web and offer free bandwidth for this
(and for any videos at BarCamp). You just need 10
lines of html embed code, the results could be
embedded on Sussex Digital or elsewhere?

If videos fit our tutorial-video requirement and the
authors want to then we can probably host them inside
ShowMeDo as well. We already have sections for
Django, TurbeGears and Rails:
http://showmedo.com/videos/django
http://showmedo.com/videos/turbogears
http://showmedo.com/videos/Rubyonrails

These sections have wiki-in-15-mins (django,
turbogears) and blog-in-15-minutes (rails) videos if
participants want some inspiration?

Regardless of whether the results could be hosted
inside ShowMeDo (though it'd be neat if we could), I'm
more than happy to help with sorting out software and
video conversion and supplying the bandwidth.

Cheers,
Ian.
