I believe that a good option is to export the current code from CVS and 
import it into Subversion and when you need history go back to CVS. If 
you install ViewVC you can look at both with the same interface. Over 
time you will be looking at the CVS history less and less.

We have a 22Gb CVS repository and our SVN repository is now heading 
towards 4Gb.
