We did it a couple of years ago. I did a trial conversion of the
repository, and it worked, but the results were pretty ugly. Instead, I
converted each project on an as-needed basis. That ended up with a much
cleaner (and more manageable) repository structure. Not only that, but
it introduced people to subversion bit by bit, rather than having a big
"flag day". Training was probably the biggest issue overall. Though
this was really helped by the fact that svn was designed to replace cvs,
so the basic ideas are the same.
I'm not certain of the size of the repository at the time. It was
probably 400Mb, not 1Gb.
