You could always catch the one 3 minutes earlier that goes direct. I suspect
the later one is the result of weird software: it involves going via HH
where you are expected to hang around for an hour from midnight.

nationalrail.co.uk never ceases to amaze me with its crapness.
Still, the regular service is quicker than bus or car - not sure about bikes
though.
