Thanks for the link. I particularly like the bit at the bottom: 

"We have chosen birds as a theme in the new passport to symbolise freedom to
travel. The birds are British residential and were chosen because they
provided a good scope for developing security features. "

Glad I've still got a pre-"War on Terror" one and didn't go for the No2ID
renewal campaign.

The deadline was to beat the price rise that ushers in the ID cards, not the
biometric RFID passports. I got my daughter a passport in April, and that
was RFID. I renewed mine in May, and it wasn't. It depends on the issuing
passport office whether you have a chip or not.

If you want a first passport from October, then it's interview and rubber
gloves time. The rest of us are spared that for a while yet.
