We are setting up a Fortnightly Coders' Dojo in Brighton!
Simply put it is where up to twelve developers take turns working together
to solve a programming problem.
The rules of the Dojo are quite straightforward. The meeting room has one
computer attached to a projector. Two programmers are selected to address
the problem, one acting as the driver and one the navigator. They must speak
continually about how they are solving the problem, so that the entire group
follows what is being done. If the group fails to understand then the pair
must pause to explain. One half of the pair is swapped out every five
minutes and another person swapped in. The language used, and the problem
investigated, can vary from session to session and these are decided by the
group.
Sound interesting to anyone?
The first meeting will be on Monday 16 October 7-9pm at the Future Platforms
offices in Brighton. We will be experimenting with the approach and using
Java to look at representations of supermarket pricing - all skill levels
welcome. See http://codingdojo.futureplatforms.com/ for background and sign
up information.
Please feel free to send this on to anyone you know who may be interested.
Hopefully see you there!
