I think it's a shame wireless routers don't do this by default - there's so
much misinformation out there that causes irrationally selfish
configuration. OTOH an open node can get hammered if not QoSed.
I think wireless owners have a duty to give back to the community for the
precious frequencies they swallow. Now there are at least a dozen networks
in my hood it's becoming impossible to coexist, so why can't we pool
resources and share alike?
Wasn't there a project started a year or so back that offered free routers
to people offering to join a pan-euro net? I can't find it now. It's
possible it collapsed after people just grabbed the routers and ran :(
