The web awards thing has been run by SCIP (my employers) for the past 7 or
so years. SCIP does receive some money in  sponsorship to help pay for the
event but doesn't receive any other funding. The Survey Monkey thing isn't
ideal but it is the easiest way to ensure that the voting is fair and it
beats the previous manual vote tallying that took place in previous years.

 Ideally there would be a whizzy bespoke voting system but we don't have the
time to put one together or the resources to get someone else to do it. Of
course if you'd like to volunteer to put together a voting system for next
years event then I'm sure SCIP would be all ears!
