We dumped our (broken) fridge (not freezer but nobody checked for
differences if that's important) recently at the tip on Wilson Avenue (just
down from the BMX track). Recently being about 1 month ago. It may be that
the law has changed *very* recently (i.e. after 5th April -I don't know).
It was free to dump and we just had to leave our name and address so it
could be checked that we weren't dumping a fridge a week or something.
I think the fridge mountain was due to the fact that only one company (in
Germany??) could safely dispose of the the harmful waste. This may have
changed.
The 33.40 is for collection and dumping so you may be paying for the actual
collection of the fridge (i.e. a van to come to your house and remove
fridge). Man-with-van might be cheaper but they won't be allowed into the
tip area and will have to park just outside and use trollies to get fridge
into tip.
It might be worth checking with the council to see if it's ok to dump the
fridge. I could be wrong.
