Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/) is based on Debian, but has had a lot of 
work put into it to make it more user-friendly. It also updates far more 
frequently than Debian. It was the first Linux distro I managed to get 
installed and running on a PC (after previous unsuccessful attempts with 
Fedora, Mandrake and Suse).
