I'm interested in this also. A little over a year ago I inherited boxes 
and boxes of slides from my late grandfather and looked into digitising 
them. Commercial services were way too expensive, as was buying a decent 
slide-scanner with auto-feeder thingy (both options looked to be £1k+). 
Prices may have come down by now of course, so if anyone knows anything...

Also I seem to remember someone saying that a standard flatbed scanner 
with a tranny-adapter is not a good idea if you want decent results... 
Could be wrong of course. Anyway, manually scanning several thousand 
slides is not my idea of a fun weekend ;-)
