A common problem, we see it all the time.
I propose a solution,
instead of "small, medium and large" we adopt a new reference of "large",
"enormous" and "collosal" instead.

imagine walking into the chemists and saying "I'd like a pack of enormous
condoms please" .
newbie chemists would be impressed. Customer could bellow this out with
confidence, experienced chemists would be tactfully impressed. Everyone
wins.
