[BNM] Flash for a friend

Hello,

My mate is a keen photographer and wants to learn Flash too. He's keen on 
the following navigation at the top (i.e. 365 days photograpy about etc.:

which surrounds the flash gallery (flash slideshowpro component - 
www.slideshowpro.net)

Can anyone send me information on how the Nav bars are done; they look to 
be flash? Are they sliding doors in Flash (i.e. is that what he should 
google?)? Any alternatives?

Also anyone seen anything free (with code) similar to slideshowpro. I think 
he's happy to pay but he won't (he tells me) get the source and I think he 
wants to see how it's done. I still don't really know much about Flash but 
thought someone here would advise?

Actually I suppose I should google a Flash Flickr type api/tool? aha!
