It is quite funny but is just ends up with people ranting at each other. 
I'm sure that's an urban myth that the Americans invented the internet so 
data/stuff could survive a nulcear strike. I've read the paper where it's 
mentioned and I'm sure it's not quite like that. I'm sure they say "This 
inter net could even survive a nuclear attack  ...." to paraphrase.

It's a bit different to saying we (them) invented it to protect data in the 
event of. I blame wikipedia or its lack of proper peer review. Actually 
wikipedia doesn't say that.
