Ian,

I'm in the same boat as you, at the moment looking for something similar for
3-4 people. I've looked at a couple of place in Brighton and Hove.. Without
any luck at the moment!

A good resource is the Wired Sussex site:

There's also a bunch of managed offices for let in Brighton - if you don't
mind an office - as opposed to something more swanky and studiolike.

You could try Premiere House on the Stein - opposite the Brighton Uni
building, I know they have units to let.

Official Space UK returns a few results in Brighton:

The other option is somewhere like New England House (behind the station)
which currently has a waiting list (I'm on it!). The buildings a bit of an
eyesore but the units (I've seen) are nice and spacious (if not a bit
industrial) and pretty reasonable.
