I haven't used it a lot but what about DVDshrink? Are the outputted
files then editable in another package to get the segment you want?

No, I *do* want to capture it and loop it
back from the hard disk. I just can't work
out how to capture the video in the first
place and then I don't have a player that
will loop the video (particularly at slow
speed so I can see what's going on - cue "Ms.
Stone, we're ready for your close-up etc." jokes)
